Today 2-9-14 Flat Quinn visited the Bodie Island Lighthouse.
The lighthouse was built in 1872.
The light keeper and his family lived in the house in front of the lighthouse. His job was to maintain the lighthouse and most importantly to light the lamp at the top foo the lighthouse every night. There was no electricity when the lighthouse was built. An oil lamp was used for light. It has to be lit every night and extinguished every morning. The light keeper made an annual salary of $400.00

The lighthouse can be seen for 19 miles
Each white or black stripe is 22 ft. Tall
